Fantastic! We were all rummies by the end

We had experienced the mount gay rum tour with lunch, back in May 2018, so knew we had to come back and try another experience. This time we chose the Evening with Mount Gay which included a light dinner and a cocktail making activity.
Whilst this was not a tour of the distillery, that’s in the north of the island, it was a fun filled and rum fuelled history lesson and rum tasting extravaganza! Think of yourself either as being an apple pie being drizzled with Mount Gay Black Barrel rum until your are saturated or, like you are the perfect rum punch (no fruit juice required!) cocktail and Romal Jones (our expert guide) is the final dash of Angostura Bitters! I would say the cherry on the top, but you don’t garnish the Rum Punch with anything other than a grating of nutmeg!!
With Romal as our guide, and new friends having been made with Alpha, Beth and Cassie & Russ, we had an amazing time.
To note, to really enjoy this experience, let your hair down, leave your doubts at the door and be ready to just go with the flow! Trust in the journey and let Romal’s enthusiasm pour over you like the smooth XO!
We tasted 4 different rums, at least 3 different cocktails and then got to make our own concoctions, all before the food!! (Top tip, line your stomach first!!). If you think you know what each rum is like or you already have a favourite, think again. Since 2018, Silver (not white!) has been more refined and XO has become more complex and discerning. Previously my favourite by far, I have now switched from XO to Black Barrel and Silver! (You’ll learn why these different rums evolve over time on the tour!!)
As for Romal, I swear he has Rum coursing thru his veins. Just imagine having his job!!
This was a fantastically enjoyable experience and would highly recommend to anyone coming to Barbados, it’s very informative and with lots of tastings and yummy foods - it’s simply a must do.
Will definitely be back!

Evening Rum Tasting at Mount Gay

The evening was an exceptional event and great value for money.
Along with rum tasting, we had an opportunity to learn a little about the history of Mount Gay and to share in just some of the passion and love that our guide, Tina had for the product.
As well as the rum tasting, we had the opportunity to make two cocktails and then to enjoy supper.
The event is well worth attending. Make sure you are not the designated driver; use their transport service.
Along with rum tasting, we had an opportunity to learn a little about the history of Mount Gay and to share in just some of the passion and love that our guide, Tina had for the product.

The storied cocktail experience was amazing! Tina was quite knowledgeable and her storytelling of the history of rum and the process was informative and entertaining. After Ramel's rum punch tutorial, my bar for good rum punch is forever raised. Food was great, ambience was great! Would definitely do it again!

Great evening at Mount Gay visitor centre, much better than we were expecting, cocktails, tastings & tour, more cocktails, cocktail class then dinner.
