What To Expect

The rum shops of Barbados are full of culture, local flavor and of course, great rum. Considering this tiny Caribbean island is the birthplace of rum, it’s no wonder that Barbadian heritage and the amber-colored spirit are intertwined. Rum shops are more than just a place to drink, they are a social hub where locals gather to gossip about the happenings around the island while playing a game of dominoes. They also double as grocery stores, selling items based on the specific needs of the town or village in which they are located. Some might just sell booze and a few tasty snacks, while others stock basic food items. Rum shops offer up traditional Bajan eats on the cheap.De Bajan Barrel is one of many rumshops on the island that has been passed down from generation to generation, it is the true embodiment of a family business. De Bajan Barrel was established in 1980 and continues to thrive today. We server delicious Bajan cuisine everyday featuring a variety of local favorites.

Friday fun at Oistons!
Jamie M, 24-09-2022
We had a great trip to Oistins, hosted by Cleston. The pick-up at the hotel was bang on time and the van air-conditioning was perfect for the warm evening.
Cleston pointed out the sights on the way with lots of humour, getting us in the mood for the fun at Oistins.

When we arrived, the seating at Fred’s was reserved which was fantastic given how busy the area was. The food was superb - I had the marlin which came with rice & peas and salad. The complimentary salt cod fish cakes were great - a nice peppery hit compared to those of Portugal and Spain.

After dinner and a few very reasonably priced beers, we went into the market/stage area. This could have been intimidating due to the noise and how busy it was, but Cleston and his brilliant daughter walked through to make sure we were okay.

On the way home, Cleston and his daughter took us to another local bar/music area for a drink. This was so much fun!

Overall we thoroughly enjoyed the trip and would highly recommend doing it with A+.

We used Cleston and Kate a few times during our 2-week holiday in Barbados, as they were recommended by the Mango Bay Hotel and provided us with a package for 2 days at the England v West Indies test match, a package to Oistons Fish Fry on a Friday, Transport to Peebles Beach to see the horses in the Sea and Cleston also arranged breakfast for us as part of this, transport to Lone Star and QP and also our transfers to and from the Airport.

He was true to his word in everything he delivered for us and actually used his charm to get us into the Cricket ahead of a massive queue, they provided us with a cooler full of Beer, soft drinks and his own deadly Rum Punch!!! he also gave us his mobile number and Cleston and Naz kept it stocked up the whole day saving us so much time over the 2 days and provided us with lunch as well.

The night we went to the fish fry it was packed and full of England Cricket fans as well as locals which produced a fantastic atmosphere, it was heaving with people but we had a reserved table for the whole night 10 metres from the central stage and music, which was a great experience and he took us back when we were ready to depart.

The transport to the horses was around 6am and he dropped us there and we then had Breakfast with Cleston and Kate. They are both very knowledgeable about the Island and its history and provided us with a real insight to what Barbados is all about.

We didnt use them for an Island tour and instead hired a 6 seater van, however, Cleston insisted on giving us a route to follow and also provided us with more of the deadly Rm punch for the trip!

I think when you come to the Caribbean you need to accept that everything is at a different pace to the UK and as such if your pick up is at 10am and they arrive at 10.15am then so what!

Overall Cleston, Kate and Naz massively enhanced our experience of Barbados and displayed amazing Bajan hospitality to us all during our stay and I would recommend them without hesitation. Good luck guys and hopefully will see you again.

Top marks for transportation and especially Shenaz the driver. The ambiance was good, people friendly and felt safe. Was expecting more live music and acts. The food options included in this package, especially the vegetarian option was very poor.
The transportation was...

The transportation was almost 30 minutes late picking me and my friends up even though we confirmed our location several hours before. There was no where to sit when we got there and had to stand and wait for people to leave to get a table even though we was told we had reserved seating. Cleaely that was not the case. There was no other food option other than fired chicken leg & thigh with fries or maccorine Pie because they ran out of all the other foods. It would have been cheaper and more satifying if my friebds and i had taken a taxi there ourselves and eat any place we choose. I basically paid over $75 for a meal that i didn't want and no drinks was included. Not even water. I Had to buy drinks and water seperately in addition to the tour/food. Oistins is a cool place with lots of entaintment, vendors and food choices. It just so happens this particular tour was not worth the money. I recommend you go to Oistins , but do it on your own. Take your own taxi and get food from where ever you want. This tour limits your options. I just didnt want to pay for food else where after i already spend so much $$$ for the tour.
