Barbados Wildlife Reserve
The Barbados Wildlife Reserve lies in an enclosed area under a canopy of mahogany trees with winding red brick pathways beneath. If you look closely at the bricks, you can still see the stamps of the manufacturing companies. The bricks were brought to Barbados by ships, which used them as ballast. During the 17th and 18th centuries, these red bricks were used to construct boiler furnaces in Barbados sugar factories. The large wheel in front of the snack bar was acquired from an old sugar factory and was once used to drive rollers for crushing the sugar cane.

The most popular animal at the Reserve is The Barbados Green Monkey. The monkey has brown and grey thick fur that has yellow and olive green flecks in it as an adult. In some lights, the monkey can appear green. This is why they are called green monkeys. Barbados Green Monkeys generally live in groups of fifteen to twenty. Within a family group, males gain their dominance by their size, strength and their ability to fight. Females, however, get their rank by the size of their families. Most infants are born during April and May.

Scenic tour worth doing!

We loved our Tour guide and how knowledgeable he was. The history he shared about Barbados we found to be extremely interesting and very related to the USA. We’ve been to Several Caves but found the geology in this one to be extra fascinating. Wish we could have done both gardens and knew more before making our choices but that gives us something to do next time.
Perfect fay

We had a fabulous day on the Natural Wonders tour. The caves were spectacular, but, to be honest, the entire trip was brilliant. The day was made extra special by our excellent guide Kwame (or Call Me, as he said). His knowledge of practically everything was exceptional.
Would absolutely recommend this superb trip.
Great experience!

This was a great excursion! The caves were spectacular! The gardens were beautiful and serene with so many beautiful flowers. Bathsheba has amazing rock structures!

The highlight for me was the Wildlife reserve and seeing all the monkeys, deer, and tortoises roaming around and they came right up to me! I was even allowed to feed the monkeys!

Our tour guide Kwame (spelling?) was excellent and very knowledgeable and funny! Would recommend him anytime!

Lunch was tasty (but very little option -chicken or fish).
Complimentary drinks were given at the Gardens and Wildlife Reserve (non alcoholic and Rum Punch respectively).
Nice trip for people without a car or limited time on the island.

This was a great way to a few different things on the island. Our tour guide was charismatic and informative. There were no beverages available on board, which would have been a nice touch for a 7 hour tour.

Harrison’s Cave was my least favorite. It was about an hour on a tram through the cave. It would have been better on foot vs on a small tram. It felt rushed.

My favorite part was the wildlife preserve. It was wonderful seeing all of the animals scurrying for food including the monkeys!

The lunch stop was good. Hunte’s Garden was absolutely spectacular and very tranquil.

I’d recommend this tour if you have limited time on the island otherwise you could rent a car and see each of these stops in slower more economical fashion.
