Reviews

Great tour with rum tasting and train ride.

Lisa was an excellent guide, lots of fun and very knowledgeable. Started the morning at Mount Gay with a fantastic Planters Punch, a little early at 10 a.m. for a drink. Ample tasting of rum during tour. Train ride at St. Nicholas Abbey was very pleasant. Great view overlooking the ocean during the stop to move engine. Meghan was a good tour guide at the abbey. We were able to see crushing and grinding of sugar cane to make molasses. More rum tasting at the abbey. Lunch was very good and filling.
Charles was awesome!

Charles our driver was awesome!! So informative, funny and accommodating. If at all possible I would definitely request him again with any tour!
Great tour!!!

My husband wanted a rum tour & I wanted an island tour. This tour pleased us both! Saw the Atlantic side of the island while heading to St. Nicholas Abbey, rode the heritage railway & stopped for delicious lunch.
The tour at Mount Gay was also fun and entertaining (even for me).
We were fortunate, as we signed up for a group tour, & were the only 2 people that day. Calvin, our driver & guide was excellent. Very informative, helpful & kept us on schedule.
A lovely day!!!
Rum with Ryan

My wife and I had a great day with our guide Ryan. He went out of his way to ensure we were welcome, engaged and entertained throughout. Very knowledgeable and I parted his wisdom through wit and humour and a good dollop of cheekiness. He is clearly proud of his island and we learned a lot about all manner of things despite it being a rum focussed tour. Both the St Nicholas and Mount Gay rum experiences though very different were super. The visit to Bathsheba was a great thing to have had as part of the tour as it sits on a very different part of the island (East) than the usual resorts on the southwest. Lunch was a welcome stop and plenty to keep us going. We recommend this tour.
Excellent Tour and Rum Sampling!

From the time we were picked up by Charles, our trip was amazing. Charles was very knowledgeable about the island, history, and culture. He narrated as he drove from point to point and had an excellent sense of humor. Oh, we had rum too. St. Nicholas Abbey gave us a true appreciation for the small scale and batch size of the operation. You really were only able to sample 1-2 vintages but they were both excellent. We made a stop for some traditional lunch then made a quick stop in Bathsheba for some time to take photos at the beach area. Then we’re we off to the Mount Gay visitors center (not the distillery) for our tasting. If you want to visit the actual distillery you need to do the separately. Akil, the guide and drinking buddy did a great job walking you through the tasting of several vintages. I will say that we also met some lovely folks in our van, it was a very pleasant day. Would recommend this if you want to carve out a portion of a day to get away from the beach.
Worth it for Mount Gay and Bathsheba

Our tour guide was excellent and knowledgeable. We enjoyed the Rhum tour at Mount Gay. It was well worth the visit and the tasting.

We also enjoyed viewing the mansion. The lady who provided our Manson tour was lovely and well-spoken. However, we found the train ride to be a waste of time and rather pointless. We sat for over an hour and it was crammed with additional tourists. The wine tasting by the mansion was also a waste of time. We were offered hardly a sip and it was cramped with other tourists. And the owner’s son who does the wine “tasting” made off color, flirtatious jokes that many women such as myself did not appreciate. He laughed at his own jokes and many of us did not find them funny. It left a foul taste in my mouth and I’m not talking about the sips of wine. My party of 3, we felt this tasting and train ride were an epic waste of time and left grossly disappointed.

Finally our stop at Bathsheba was quite lovely and much appreciated.
Pretty average...

It was good to learn a little about the history of the island and the origins of rum but it was a but rushed between finishing there and getting to the caves. Although the guide at the rum tasting was good we did have to miss the last bit of the tasting to get to the caves on time. The caves were ok but overall we probably spent just as much time travelling as we did at the tourist attractions.
