What To Expect

St. John's Church
The St John Parish Church

According to the Anglican tradition, worship has been conducted on this spot since 1645. The first building, a wooden structure, was destroyed by fire in 1676 and replaced by a stone structure.

Following the hurricanes of 1780 and 1831, the current building was constructed in 1836.

Fernando Paleologus,a former church warden and planter was buried under the choir when he died in 1670. He was buried with his head pointing to the west and the body embedded in quicklime in accordance with the Greek Orthodox custom. Following the hurricane of 1831 his tomb was moved to the churchyard.

Paleologus was a descendent of the brother of the great Emperor Constantine XI He fled to Barbados after his family was driven from the throne of Constantinople by the Turks

Bathsheba Beach
Bathsheba is located on the Eastern coastline of Barbados. It is said that this area was named after the wife of King David whose name was “Bathsheba”. Legend has it that she bathed in milk to keep her skin beautiful and soft, and the rolling surf waters of Bathsheba’s “Soup Bowl” resembled Bathsheba’s bath. The area is popular with surfers. It is a popular area for locals and visitors alike and is dotted with several seaside cottages.

Morgan Lewis Mill
The Morgan Lewis Sugar Mill was built in 1727 it is one of the many Barbadian windmills once used to produce sugar, and one of the two last functioning sugar windmills in the world.

The Morgan Lewis Mill ceased grinding sugarcane for commercial purposes in 1947 and was subsequently given to the Barbados National Trust.

The site was listed in the 1996 World Monuments Watch by the World Monuments Fund. Restoration began by the Barbados National Trust during the following summer. In 1997, financial support was provided by American Express for emergency repairs. The mill was reopened in 1999. With all its original working parts having been preserved intact, the sails were able to turn again after the project was completed.

Cherry Tree Hill
Cherry Tree Hill is eight hundred and fifty (850) ft above sea level and is a part of St. Nicholas Abbey plantation. Actually due to the size of the St. Nicholas Abbey property, Cherry Tree Hill actually borders, St.Peter and St. Andrew. Many years ago, the drive on either side to get to it was flanked by cherry trees, thus the reason for its name; however these were replaced with mahogany trees which now line the road. The trees were planted in celebration of the signing of The Treaty of Paris in 1763. This is when France gave England back the islands that they had stolen from them during the Napoleonic wars. (Barbados was not one of the Islands Captured)

Carlisle Bay al crescent-shaped bay located on the South West Coast of the island and is considered by many to be one of the most beautiful beaches. in the world. On most days Carlisle Bay boasts calm turquoise waters with no undertow, delicately lapping on the soft white sand. This bay draws both locals and tourists alike with its breath-taking beauty above water, but also its’ thriving marine park that is enjoyed by scuba divers and snorkelers alike. Under the surface of the sea Carlisle Bay comes alive with vibrant tropical fish in abundance, sea horses, sea turtles, octopus, rays, and much more! This unique array of marine life is due in part to the six different ship wrecks in the water as shallow as 12ft. The wrecks are obviously another important contributor to the popularity of Carlisle Bay. For those seeking an adventure, you will not be disappointed with the sight of these sunken treasures.

Please note that the sea life seen from day to day varies.

We did two tours with this company and both were fantastic. We did the Just BIM tour which we booked directly through their website and the Explore and Discover Barbados By Land & By Sea tour.

Just BIM - Thank you to our tour guide Stephen who was extremely professional and genuinely cares tremendously about the visitor experience, we even booked an additional private tour with him because he knew we wanted to see more of the island. He was more than happy to make additional stops depending on what we wanted to see and gave us loads of interesting facts about life in Barbados.

Explore and Discover Barbados By Land & By Sea - Thank you very much to our tour guide Lisa. She was extremely professional and like Stephen, also provide us with loads of interesting facts about life in Barbados and the sites we were seeing. Her bubbly and energetic personality really bounced onto us and we really enjoyed spending our time with her.

Snorkelling at the Shipwreck and with the turtles was an amazing experience and Tranquility Cruises were fantastic!

To summarise, both tours were fantastic and I would highly recommend both.
Lovely day out!

Calvin, our tour guide, arrived promptly and was friendly and knowledgeable. We enjoyed being shown around this beautiful island, and the hour on the boat and swimming were fabulous! Lunch was okay but we wouldn’t return to the restaurant.

The tour was very good. Driver/tour guide did an excellent job. Unfortunately due to a change in the ships schedule we had to miss the boat ride and swimming with the turtles.
